Paul Pike is from the Mi’kmaq Nation of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) and is a founding member of Qalipu First Nation. Paul and his family execute traditional dancing at powwows across Canada every summer. He has toured and performed professionally for over 35 years as a recording artist and musician and has created a unique flavour of contemporary Indigenous music. Paul has been the composer and vocalist for the Canyon Records award winning group Medicine Dream since 1999, of which they had released three recordings internationally. He has shared the stage with many great artists such as Crystal Gayle and Randy Travis, and has been a featured artist for the Gord Downie-Chanie Wenjack Foundation, which provides education about residential schools and reconciliation. He has travelled far sharing the story of the Mi’kmaw people of Newfoundland. While he is most known for his guitar playing and singing skills, he also plays the traditional drum and the Pipukwaqn (Mi’kmaw Flute). In 2022 he released a CD called “Echoes of our Ancestors”, a recording devoted to highlighting the beautiful sounds of the Pipukwaqn. In 2022, this album was nominated for a Grammy Award, and also nominated for Instrumental solo artist of the year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2024. As a musician, Paul has shared his music with many worldwide. International leaders such as King Charles, the Lieutenant Governors of Canada, provincial and federal government leaders, including the Prime Minister of Canada, the Assembly of First Nations, various Tribal governments, and communities throughout Canada, the United States and United Kingdom. |
